Validation of acquired experience (VAE) allows individuals to obtain a professional certification by recognizing professional, personal, or volunteer experiences that correspond to the skills targeted by that certification. The certification obtained through VAE has the same value as that obtained through initial or continuing education.
Professional Experience Validation (VAE)
An accessible approach
Professional experience validation is accessible to anyone, regardless of age, educational level, or status. All experiences related to the targeted certification are considered, including volunteer work.
This system is particularly beneficial for individuals who were unable to obtain the intended diploma, those who had to enter the workforce early, and those whose career has primarily been shaped by hands-on experience and who wish to showcase their skills in fashion.
The certifications awarded by IFA PARIS are currently in the process of being renewed with France Compétences.
- “Fashion Marketing and Product Development Manager” certification (Level 7)
- “Fashion Designer” certification (Level 6)

VAE Process
Framework
All Steps to Follow
- Self-assessment: Using the skills framework, you’ll be able to validate your choice of professional certification.
- Submission of the admissibility application: This will allow the admissibility committee to evaluate your application. The committee may issue a favorable opinion or refuse admissibility.
- If the admissibility opinion is favorable, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment with your VAE contact: vae@ifaparis.com
- Redaction of the proof file / validation file: The aim is to demonstrate the experience gained, and the knowledge and skills it has enabled the candidate to master, such as those expected of a holder of the diploma in question. Candidates may or may not opt for external support.
- VAE jury: Composed of teachers and professional experts in the targeted specialty, the jury studies and evaluates the evidence file and interviews the candidate. After deliberation, the jury’s decision is communicated to the candidate at the latest one week after their oral examination.
Three possible decisions:
- Full validation: the jury approves the award of the targeted professional certification, or of the targeted block of skills.
- Partial validation: the jury grants the candidate part of the diploma but additional training is required and/or the writing of a dissertation, or the acquisition of additional experience in a particular field. A new validation may be requested within a maximum period of 5 years following the jury’s deliberation.
- No validation is granted.
- This process requires 6 to 12 months of preparation.
